Net Zero Carbon Footprint

Putting a Priority on Climate
Under the SCS–007 Certification Standard for Sustainability Rated Diamonds, producers are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. They take active measures to improve efficiencies in energy and operations. Reducing these impacts is a vital component of sustainability. The carbon footprint that remains is then balanced out each year through investments in renewable energy or other climate mitigation initiatives.
How a Diamond Producer Achieves Net Zero Carbon Footprint
In addition to reducing its own climate change impacts and those of its supply chain, the producer can further reduce its carbon footprint and make progress toward net zero in two ways:
- The purchase of carbon offset credits.
- Direct investment in climate mitigation projects that reduce the climate impact through pollution prevention and other methods.
In some cases, these actions might also result in measurable “co-benefits” in other impact categories – for instance, leading to improved air quality and better health outcomes for the local population.
